Gingival Recession (Periodontology)
Periodontology is branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the gums. While Gingival Recession refers to the progressive loss of gum tissue, which can eventually result in tooth root exposure if left untreated. When the gums recede as a result of gum disease, they reveal more of the underlying structure of the tooth, including its roots.
Treatment of Gum Recession
Once the cause of the gingival recession has been addressed the procedure starts by applying root surface cleaning, interface cleaning, bleaching processes (teeth whitening) and offer our patients suggestions for the care they need to do to ensure oral hygiene.
Every case of gum recession is slightly different, therefore many treatments are available.
We aim to complete the improvements we have achieved in the initial treatment we apply in our clinic after several sessions and move on to the other necessary stages.
By determining the general oral condition and gingival phenotype of our patients, we decide on other treatment stages and our Doctor performs several surgical techniques to correct receding gums and increase the amount of attached tissue.
These operations can be listed as follows;
- Regenerative treatments and graft applications.
- Gingival levels and gingival aesthetic.
- Crown length readjustments.
- Gingival pocket elimination surgeries.
- Dental implants.
- Laser applications.
